Who We Are

The mission of NWiR is to empower women in the roofing industry. National Women in Roofing (NWiR) is a volunteer-based organization that supports and advances the careers of women roofing professionals, from manufacturing to design to installation, investigation to repair to management, and every step in between. NWiR provides networking, mentoring, education and industry recruitment opportunities from the rooftop to the boardroom, for the young professional at the start of her career to the seasoned manager in the executive suite. Through a commitment to connect and empower women in roofing, NWiR members contribute to the overall betterment and professionalism of the roofing industry.

Membership also includes and welcomes men who support the inclusion of women in the roofing industry. Working together, NWiR members are bringing the industry to a new level of excellence by supporting and promoting the contributions of women as an essential component to the future of roofing.
NWIR is guided by a strong framework of bylaws, processes and procedures that are designed to ensure implementation of the following pillars of the association:
  • Industry Recruitment: Reach beyond traditional recruitment strategies to attract, hire and retain women who will bring diverse backgrounds, talents and experiences to the roofing industry and will elevate the professionalism and diversity of our community.
  • Networking: Provide opportunities to interact with and learn from women in the roofing industry, creating strong, long-lasting and supportive networks with each other and through strategic alliances with other organizations.
  • Education: Create high-quality learning programs and experiences for men and women to build successful businesses and careers in the roofing industry, with a focus on business skills, professional development, and self-advocacy to support their technical expertise and advance their careers.
  • Mentoring: Mentor and empower women in the roofing industry to advocate for themselves and achieve excellence in their chosen careers.

Lately, it might seem like everyone is talking about diversity, equity and inclusion. National Women in Roofing is no stranger to this conversation. Since its launch in 2016, 1000+ members have been advancing equity by connecting, empowering, and amplifying women for the betterment and professionalism of our industry. It’s no surprise that NWiR continues to pave the way for roofing professionals at all levels to shift mindsets, practices, and systems that create barriers to innovation, profitability, and social justice.

Let’s face it. All forward-thinking professionals need to understand how to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Achieving equity — the condition where the attributes of one’s identity has no influence on how one experiences a career in the roofing industry — is a core goal of the REAL Roofing education program. While no single course can provide the knowledge and skills to create equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, this intentionally accessible foundational training will help you make your organization a more supportive and engaging place to work for people of any background or identity.

Through a deeper understanding of equitable and inclusive habits, you’ll be better equipped to recognize and understand each person’s role in eliminating enduring inequities in our workforce. We’ll use small daily activities, designed to take less than 20 minutes and to be completed at your own pace, to gradually create new habits of understanding, empathy, and inclusion.
